General
Regular fifty minute sessions are arranged, usually once weekly, at 42 Cedar Avenue, Chelmsford. Counselling can last for a period of only a few weeks or may extend over a much longer period depending on circumstances.

Couples counselling
There are problematic issues that arise in most relationships at one time or another. For some, those issues can escalate to endanger the relationship. Difficulties with intimacy, communications, jealousy, ill-health, bereavement all bring additional stress to relationships.

Psychodynamic counselling aims to assist people to understand how past experiences and current behaviour may be connected; it allows space for exploration of feelings and thoughts about oneself and the relationship.

Both partners should be willing to come for counselling together or at least consider this as an option.

Group therapy
As an alternative to work with individuals or couples it is sometimes advantageous to join a therapy group. The Foundation provides an opportunity for such work and will recommend those felt suited to it after the normal intake process. Regular group sessions, usually 6 to 8 people, meet weekly for 1½ hours with an experienced group leader. These are generally mixed groups for men and women of all ages.

Group therapy is a recognised and established form of therapy for those with personal and relationship difficulties, or people who simply want to explore their lives and look at possibilities for change.

It offers an opportunity to look at oneself in relationships with a number of other people, to explore unconscious assumptions and ways of behaving, and to understand the origins and meanings of personal difficulties.

Assessment is offered to people who refer themselves or who are referred by doctors and others in the caring professions.
