Training – Coronavirus update

We have adapted our training and our 2019/20 courses are going ahead as scheduled and we are very much open for applications for our 2020/21 BACP accredited training.

If you are interested in our Training Courses, application forms are available below under the course headings.

Chelmsford Counselling Foundation is a psychodynamic counselling agency accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  The Foundation is long established and has a high reputation in Essex and beyond for its counselling work and in the training of counsellors.  Our training programme has been in operation since the inception of the Foundation and is an integral part of our work, standing equal with counselling in our constitution.

Psychodynamic counselling stresses the importance of the unconscious and past experience in shaping current behaviour. This training teaches you the skills needed to build an accepting and trusting relationship, encouraging clients to talk about their childhood relationships with parents and other significant people as well as present ones. It also uses similar techniques to psychotherapy, including free association, and interpretation of transference, where feelings experienced in previous significant relationships are projected onto the therapist. An important aspect of the training is increasing self-awareness so you will be required to reflect on your own experiences and relationships, in seminars, training groups and personal therapy.

Each year of our courses requires attendance one evening per week for three 10 week terms:

Certificate in Counselling Skills (One year, Wednesdays)

Diploma in Counselling Skills (One year, Thursdays)

Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (Two/Three years, Monday (year 1), Tuesday (year 2))*

*This includes clinical work with clients and weekly group supervision, included within the course fees. In some circumstances this part of the course can be completed in two years.

Together, our courses form a BACP accredited professional psychodynamic counsellor training. For more details of each course please click on the tabs below.

We emphasise that we provide a training in counselling, not a course of instruction.  This means that our Assessment Committee must be satisfied that the trainee has reached a required standard, which is not just a matter of completing hours and assignments, before awarding a qualification.  Please note that progression each year is not automatic but dependent upon our assessment process.
