Chelmsford Counselling Foundation is a psychodynamic counselling agency accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  The Foundation is long established and has a high reputation in Essex and beyond for its counselling work and in the training of counsellors.  Our training programme has been in operation since the inception of the Foundation and is an integral part of our work, standing equal with counselling in our constitution.

Psychodynamic counselling stresses the importance of the unconscious and past experience in shaping current behaviour. This training teaches you the skills needed to build an accepting and trusting relationship, encouraging clients to talk about their childhood relationships with parents and other significant people as well as present ones. It also uses similar techniques to psychotherapy, including free association, and interpretation of transference, where feelings experienced in previous significant relationships are projected onto the therapist. An important aspect of the training is increasing self-awareness so you will be required to reflect on your own experiences and relationships, in seminars, experiential groups and personal therapy.

Training – Coronavirus update

We have adapted our training and our 2020/21 courses are going ahead as scheduled, albeit remotely until we are able to return to our training facility in full compliance with government guidelines; and we are now open for applications for our 2021/22 BACP accredited training.

Our 2021/22 Certificate in Counselling Skills will be delivered remotely, via Zoom, for Term 1 2021/22 (September to November 2021) with a view to returning to “in the room” training at our Training Centre at 42 Cedar Avenue, Chelmsford in January 2022.

Our 2021/22 Diploma in Counselling Skills and Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling are planned to be delivered “in the room” in Chelmsford from September 2021.
